This video takes you on a quick tour of an Automated Service Observing System (ASOS) and a few other components of weather observing systems at East Texas Regional Airport (KGGG). Two other sensors are not shown in the video: temperature/dewpoint and another visibility sensor to detect any current visibility restriction. It uses the same type of technology as the visibility sensor shown in the video. Note that this station takes automated observations, but it is augmented by ATC personnel to correct any errors before being used to create the current ATIS (automated terminal information system). You can listen to this specific ASOS sensor anytime at KGGG by calling 903-643-4029! Important: I had permission from Air Traffic Control and airport management for visiting this location on the airport and was escorted by an approved ATCT employee. Do not attempt to visit ASOS/AWOS systems on your own without express permission! Visit my website at www.theaviationvault.com to learn much more about aircraft dispatchers, airlines, and dispatch history! Learn more about LeTourneau University's aviation program at www.letu.edu/fly or about our all-online Aviation Studies degree program at http://bit.ly/AviationOnline. Always remember that Laura, when you get right down to it, is just a pilot and a dispatcher. She is explaining facts from the source materials but may be incorrect or out of date. You should always follow your primary guidance (Aircraft manuals, government regulations, etc.) before listening to anything from this YouTube channel. These videos are intended for educational purposes only.
